Just Thinking

I have had several readers tell me that our family has inspired their family and it really just blows me away.  It is only thanks to God, being persistent and taking small steps that we have been able to realize our dreams.

But, I thought that maybe I would start sharing more about the ins and outs of how we got to where we are and the steps we are taking to continue our journey.  I like to think that we live "outside the box".

There are many others that have chosen similar paths and I am so thankful that the internet has helped to connect us and also for our little rural nook up here in northern Vermont where I have been able to find others that share common values. But for the most part I think our family still sticks out and that we live very differently than most in our country.

Just yesterday, for example, our fourteen year old exclaimed, "Mom, thank you for making a new dish cloth!"   I thought to myself - wow!  How many fourteen year olds would even notice.

So, there may be some controversial posts coming up and many of you may disagree with some of the things I write.  I promise that I will not be judgemental or condemning, but instead simply share our family's way of living and what we hope to achieve by living our small simple life.

Blessings on this beautiful Monday,
Tonya

  1. I am among the inspired. You have yet to write anything that comes close to offending me and I haven't found another family that comes as close to our simple lifestyle as yours! When I don't feel like blogging anymore, I think about the inspiration I've gotten from you and it makes me want to continue sharing for those people who've said they've been inspired by us. The inspiration just keeps going around!! :D

  4. Whether or not people are offended is their choice. Keep doing what you're doing! I look forward to reading more about your lifestyle choices. Perhaps someday my family will be where you are in terms of simplicity. :-)

  12. I can't wait to read your thoughts and hear more of the nitty gritty behind the blog! Like you, even among the homeschoolers and alternative types down here in southern VT we live very differently...one big big reason is just that we don't have our child watching TV and extremely rarely do we let her watch movies...as in she has seen less than 5 and she is almost 9 years old. That and keeping sheep, goats, chickens and ducks makes us much more "out there" than I tend to think we are. Your blog is a great comfort to me and please know that sharing the ups and downs makes it even more so. Thank you for all your efforts!

  14. My son was all for living off the grid.
I think I would have liked it.But Gee it is a tremendus
Amount of work.More and more I desire to grow my own food and preserve what we get.
My dear son had built a wind turbine some time ago,and was in the process of working the kinks out.For he built it out of literal scrapes. He got most from the county dump.
I am not a spring Chicken, but I do like that way of life.

  17. We too live an unconventional life - I always appreciate when others can look at it with an open mind. We all learn from each other and we each take what we need and give what we can. I look forward to hearing about your life. "The strength to live a life of nonconformity is a virtue."
